Happy Thanksgiving!

Dear Southmoore Church Family and Friends

If you would have told me months ago, we would still be in the middle of this coronavirus, I would have said, “No way!” But as you know, it is “Yes way!” Of course, that doesn’t mean we have to like it.

Yes, Covid 19 is taking its toll on all of us. We are growing weary. Of course, that brings us to a place of deciding what we are going to do.

When it is all said and done, we can do one of two things: Become cynical? Give up? Throw up our hands in the air and quit? Or we can choose not to give up. We can choose to trust. We can choose to look up. We can choose to walk by faith and not by sight.

Allow me to share some good news. I know you will agree with me that we could all use some good news at this time. Paul was writing to Timothy. Timothy was discouraged. His faith was being challenged. Paul writes, “If we are faithless, He will remain faithful, for He cannot disown Himself,” (2 Timothy 2:13). Paul is reminding Timothy that God, in no uncertain circumstances, will ever abandon His children.

Some more good news: A vaccine will be available in the near future. Of course, we don’t know when it will get to us. But, we do see a light at the end of the tunnel. I believe we have entered into the fourth quarter fighting this virus. So, let me encourage you to keep praying, keep believing, and keep trusting.

East Wing Project: Progress is being made. Slow but sure. I was told this week that the grids for the drop ceiling will go up in a couple of weeks if all goes well. I believe we will see things move along after that.

I want to commend you for your continued financial support to the church. Your tithes and offerings speak volumes of your love for the Lord and His church. You are amazing!

Last of all, pray as we go forward at Southmoore. Yes, a vaccine is on its way, but until it is made available, the cases are going up. We may need to only record our Sunday morning services, and not have people attend. That’s not what I want, but it may be best for the safety of everyone. Please pray. If you have any suggestions, let me know.

Bro. Danny

Happy Thanksgiving!

October 15th Newsletter

Dear Southmoore Church Family,

It is impossible to put into words to let you know how much Judy and I appreciate you for all you have done during Pastor Appreciation month. We so enjoyed last Sunday morning’s video, the many kind and encouraging words, the love offering, cards, gifts, and other expressions of your love for us. Southmoore, you are amazing. We are so blessed to be a part of a loving and caring church.

We love you!

Bro. Danny and Judy.

I want to encourage you to mark your calendar. November 1st is the end of daylight savings time. So be sure and set your clocks and time pieces back one hour Saturday night before you go to bed. That way you will be on time for Sunday morning services. Remember, this is a time to “Fall Back” one hour.

This day will not only be a day to “Fall Back” but also a day to “fall down on your knees”. Let me explain. As you know, November 3, 2020 is election day. I’ve heard other people say that this may very well be the most important election day in our lifetime. The way the election goes could very well affect generations to come. It appears that Christianity will be voted on. I know you have been watching, listening, and praying as election day draws near.

I want to invite you to join us, November 1, 2020, at 6 pm at Southmoore Baptist Church for a prayer meeting. We all agree, prayer changes things. Prayer is not only a privilege, but also, prayer is powerful. Our prayers can and will make a difference in the November 3rd election.

Mark your calendar, save the date, and join us Sunday, 6 pm, November 1, 2020 at Southmoore Baptist Church.

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Amen and Amen.”

2 Chronicles 7:14

Update Letter From Pastor Danny

Dear Southmoore Church Family and Friends,

I pray this letter finds you doing well and that you are staying safe. You are always in my prayers.

Many people have been asking how I am doing? I am doing fine. Thank you for not only being concerned, but also your continual prayers. My doctor said there is a possibility that more tumors may appear. I will be going in for a scope of my bladder every two months for the next year. It will be part of my medical maintenance as I go forward. And if more tumors appear, there is another procedure that will be considered. Again, I can’t thank you enough for your love and prayers. I am blessed beyond measure.

Brother Doug, Brother Hayden, and I met last week to talk about going forward at Southmoore and the pandemic. We talked about Sunday School and our Sunday and Wednesday night services. As you probably know, there was a spike in the coronavirus cases last week. We were in agreement that we should continue with what we are doing for the time being.

If you have any ideas or thoughts, we would gladly like to hear from you. Brother Doug talked about starting choir rehearsal in preparation for a Christmas program. He is reaching out to choir members and potential choir members for their input.

The East Wing Project continues to go forward. There was a slow-down the last several weeks, but things are picking up. It is exciting to see the progress. God is good!

As you Pastor, I want to commend you for your continual and consistent financial support to your church. Many are still unable to attend at this time, but you are faithful in your tithes and offerings. Some are now giving online. Your love for Jesus and the Church is showing.

Let me close by reminding you to pray for our country and the upcoming election. I have heard people saying that this election may very well be the most important election in our lifetime. PRAY – STAND – VOTE!

To Live Is Christ,

Bro. Danny

Update from Pastor Danny

Dear Southmoore Family and Friends,

I want to borrow the words of the Apostle Paul: “I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy.” (Philemon 1:3-4)

The last month has been a more than challenging time for my family and me. After several doctor’s appointments and dealing with the “unknowns” and the “what-ifs” we have finally come through the storm.

We met with our urologist yesterday, September 15. He confirmed that the tumor in my bladder was malignant. the great news is that he had already removed it on September 3. We thought that he was only going to take a biopsy of it first and remove it later. That wasn’t the case. We obviously didn’t ask enough questions.

The doctor said he was able to get all of the tumor. Praise the Lord! But also said there is a possibility that more tumors may appear later. I am now scheduled to have a procedure every two months for the next year to check out my bladder.

Judy and I have been overwhelmed with the outpouring of love and prayers from you. You have lifted us up, and truly, your prayers have made a difference. We are so blessed to have such a wonderful church family.

We love you very much!

To Live is Christ,

Bro. Danny and Judy

September’s Newsletter

Dear Southmoore Church Family and Friends,

I can hear you say, “Don’t you think this is a little much?”

My answer, “Yes, I do!”

We are all getting tired of our new normal. We are used to moving on. We are used to putting “stuff” behind us. It doesn’t matter how you slice it; these are difficult days.

It’s easy to say, “Don’t worry,” or “Don’t be afraid.” I know as God’s people we are not to live in fear. Yes, fear and faith cannot co-exist. But there are times in our lives that fear comes barging in. It’s called reality.

Keep reading. I have some good news. “When I am afraid, I will trust in you. In God whose word I praise- in God I trust; I will not be afraid.” (Psalm 56:3-4)

Did you notice the psalmist saying when I am afraid, I will trust God? He is saying that there are times in our lives that fear sets in. When it does, we are to trust God. Easier said than done, yes. I hope you hear God saying, “We are going to get through this – together.” It is His promise to us.

I have a personal prayer request. It was discovered last week that I have a tumor in my bladder. It is about the size of a walnut. A biopsy was taken and was sent off to the lab. I will not know the results of the test until September 18. This finding not only has my attention, but also my family. Please pray for us as we navigate through these uncertain days.

To Live Is Christ,

Bro. Danny
