Happy Easter from Pastor Danny & Judy

A family was watching the Easter Story on TV. The young daughter was deeply moved as Jesus was being beaten, tortured, and killed. She sat in silence and tears ran down her cheeks. Finally, Jesus was taken down from the cross. The daughter wiped her tears, and a big grin came over her face. Then she shouted, “Now comes the good stuff!”

This is Passion Week. As believers, we can’t keep from thinking about what Jesus went through for us on the cross. Friday, crucifixion day, was a horrible day. The Innocent, Jesus, died for the guilty. Peter, speaking to the crowd, declared, “and you, with the help of wicked men, put Him to death by nailing Him to a cross. But God raised Him from the dead.” (Acts 2:23-24).

The cross was no accident. The death of, and crucifixion of, Jesus was a part of God’s incredible plan. Jesus knew that from the very beginning of time. “The reason my Father loves Me is that I lay down my life – only to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of My own accord.” (John 10:17-18).

Easter is a reminder that Jesus loves you and me so much that He was willing to pay a debt He did not owe, because He knew we owed a debt we could not pay. And now we are invited to see for ourselves that the tomb is empty. He is Risen! Death, hell, and the grave could not hold Him down! Can I get an Amen? Happy Easter!

Bro. Danny

What Do I Do Now?

The question we are all asking is, “What do I do now?” As the coronavirus is losing its grip on our lives, we want to know what we can or should do. The virus is still very dangerous. But, with many getting vaccinated, people are getting out and about more.

When asked, what are you going to do now, the answer seems to fall into these responses: yes, no, maybe so, positively I don’t know.

Please let me be very clear. I believe every individual has a right to do what they believe is best for them. And no one should be judged by their decision. Can I get an Amen?

I am sure of this. God loves His children. He is a Shepherd God that leads His sheep. In Luke 15, we have a picture of what God is like.

First, God is like a shepherd who has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. What does He do? He leaves the 99 and goes out into the country to find the one lost sheep. He doesn’t return until he finds it.
Secondly, God is like a woman who has ten silver coins and loses one. What does she do? She turns the house upside down and doesn’t stop looking until she finds it.

Last of all, Luke tells us that there was a father who had two sons. One of his sons left home and went out into the world and broke his dad’s heart. The young man, after coming to his sense, decided to go back home. How did his Father receive him? With open arms! He never stopped loving his son.

And God will never stop loving us. Does He know we had a tough year? Sure He does. Remember when God told Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt? He wasn’t doing cartwheels about this assignment because he didn’t think he had what it took to accomplish it. That’s when God told him, “I will certainly be with you.” (Exodus 3:12)

We all need that reminder when we are facing difficult days. Was Moses filled with doubt and fear? I think so. Has there been times this past year that we too found ourselves afraid and anxious? Sure we have.
So, what are going to do now? I’m glad you asked. “But seek first his kingdom, and his righteousness, and see how God will meet your every need,” (Matthew 6:33, emphasis mine).

Bro. Danny

Happy Anniversary

Let me start by saying “Happy Anniversary.” You might be asking, “Preacher, what are you writing about?” I’m referring to the one-year anniversary of Covid 19.

Some of us remember where we were when we first heard about the seriousness of the virus. I do. I was driving home from church, listening to my radio. The Oklahoma City Thunder basketball team was scheduled to play the Utah Jazz that night. The game was cancelled, and the fans were sent home.
From that night on until now, life began to change as we know it. The year 20202 was most definitely a difficult year. Someone has rightly said, “Most people create their own crisis. But the Covid 19 was forced upon us.”

The good news is that we are seeing signs of things getting better. We most definitely are moving in the right direction. I’m not saying the storm is over, but I’m saying I do see the clouds breaking up, and I do see a glimmer of sunlight. Praise God!

As for Southmoore, our attendance is going up, week to week. We hade 92 in worship last Sunday. God’s people not only are attending services, but they continue to support the church through their tithes and offerings. Your giving truly is a testimony of your love for the Lord and this church. Southmoore is the best! I’m humbled to be your Pastor.

Please continue to pray for me and my battle with bladder cancer. I completed my 6 treatments a couple of weeks ago and will be having a scope to see if there are any signs of cancer cells or new tumors on March 24th. I believe I am cancer free! I’ll keep you posted.

As far as the water damage in the church, the carpet in the sanctuary will be replaced. It does appear that the tile in the foyer and in the hallways will be replaced also. That has not been confirmed, but we should know in a few weeks. The best news is that we are blessed that the damage is not any worse than what it was, PTL.

The signs of spring are all around us. We can already see the transformation. What about you? Would you be open for God to give you a new beginning? If not – why not?

To Live is Christ,
Bro. Danny

Dear Southmoore Family and Friends,

I’m sure you have heard or said yourself, “If it’s not one thing, it’s another.”

Once again, we have been facing more challenges. We wonder, will it ever end: freezing temperatures, record snow fall, power outages, empty shelves at the grocery store, frozen water pipes. I could go on and on.

I am sad to have to write to let you know that we will not have church this Sunday, February 21, 2021. Allow me to explain why. Last Wednesday afternoon, a fire sprinkler went off next to the main entrance to the church. Immediately, the fire department was notified and came to the church. John Conaway was also notified and came. Only one sprinkler head went off, but in a matter of minutes, 1000’s of gallons of water ran into the foyer, sanctuary, offices, classrooms, and East Wing.

A small army came and began cleaning things up. They did an amazing job. It is not known at this time the amount of damage. It does appear it is only minimum. Of course, we will know more in the next few days.

My daughter-in-law, Lori, was able to contact a friend of the family who is in the restoration business. He was able to come out Wednesday night to begin the clean-up. Commercial fans and de-humidifiers are now in the sanctuary and fans in the classrooms.

So, as you can see, another challenge, another opportunity.

I was hoping we could have church this Sunday, but that is not possible. We will have services online, so you won’t have to miss my Sunday sermon. I hope you will be able to join us.

I will keep you posted on the clean-up progress. Thank you for your continual prayers. Your love for the Lord and Southmoore is amazing. Please pass this message onto others who do not keep up with us on their computers and phones.

Habakkuk tells us that even if “the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Savior.” (Habakkuk 3:17-18)

Happy Thanksgiving!

Dear Southmoore Church Family and Friends

If you would have told me months ago, we would still be in the middle of this coronavirus, I would have said, “No way!” But as you know, it is “Yes way!” Of course, that doesn’t mean we have to like it.

Yes, Covid 19 is taking its toll on all of us. We are growing weary. Of course, that brings us to a place of deciding what we are going to do.

When it is all said and done, we can do one of two things: Become cynical? Give up? Throw up our hands in the air and quit? Or we can choose not to give up. We can choose to trust. We can choose to look up. We can choose to walk by faith and not by sight.

Allow me to share some good news. I know you will agree with me that we could all use some good news at this time. Paul was writing to Timothy. Timothy was discouraged. His faith was being challenged. Paul writes, “If we are faithless, He will remain faithful, for He cannot disown Himself,” (2 Timothy 2:13). Paul is reminding Timothy that God, in no uncertain circumstances, will ever abandon His children.

Some more good news: A vaccine will be available in the near future. Of course, we don’t know when it will get to us. But, we do see a light at the end of the tunnel. I believe we have entered into the fourth quarter fighting this virus. So, let me encourage you to keep praying, keep believing, and keep trusting.

East Wing Project: Progress is being made. Slow but sure. I was told this week that the grids for the drop ceiling will go up in a couple of weeks if all goes well. I believe we will see things move along after that.

I want to commend you for your continued financial support to the church. Your tithes and offerings speak volumes of your love for the Lord and His church. You are amazing!

Last of all, pray as we go forward at Southmoore. Yes, a vaccine is on its way, but until it is made available, the cases are going up. We may need to only record our Sunday morning services, and not have people attend. That’s not what I want, but it may be best for the safety of everyone. Please pray. If you have any suggestions, let me know.

Happy Thanksgiving!

October 15th Newsletter

Dear Southmoore Church Family,

It is impossible to put into words to let you know how much Judy and I appreciate you for all you have done during Pastor Appreciation month. We so enjoyed last Sunday morning’s video, the many kind and encouraging words, the love offering, cards, gifts, and other expressions of your love for us. Southmoore, you are amazing. We are so blessed to be a part of a loving and caring church.

We love you!

Bro. Danny and Judy.

I want to encourage you to mark your calendar. November 1st is the end of daylight savings time. So be sure and set your clocks and time pieces back one hour Saturday night before you go to bed. That way you will be on time for Sunday morning services. Remember, this is a time to “Fall Back” one hour.

This day will not only be a day to “Fall Back” but also a day to “fall down on your knees”. Let me explain. As you know, November 3, 2020 is election day. I’ve heard other people say that this may very well be the most important election day in our lifetime. The way the election goes could very well affect generations to come. It appears that Christianity will be voted on. I know you have been watching, listening, and praying as election day draws near.

I want to invite you to join us, November 1, 2020, at 6 pm at Southmoore Baptist Church for a prayer meeting. We all agree, prayer changes things. Prayer is not only a privilege, but also, prayer is powerful. Our prayers can and will make a difference in the November 3rd election.

Mark your calendar, save the date, and join us Sunday, 6 pm, November 1, 2020 at Southmoore Baptist Church.

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Amen and Amen.”

2 Chronicles 7:14

Update Letter From Pastor Danny

Dear Southmoore Church Family and Friends,

I pray this letter finds you doing well and that you are staying safe. You are always in my prayers.

Many people have been asking how I am doing? I am doing fine. Thank you for not only being concerned, but also your continual prayers. My doctor said there is a possibility that more tumors may appear. I will be going in for a scope of my bladder every two months for the next year. It will be part of my medical maintenance as I go forward. And if more tumors appear, there is another procedure that will be considered. Again, I can’t thank you enough for your love and prayers. I am blessed beyond measure.

Brother Doug, Brother Hayden, and I met last week to talk about going forward at Southmoore and the pandemic. We talked about Sunday School and our Sunday and Wednesday night services. As you probably know, there was a spike in the coronavirus cases last week. We were in agreement that we should continue with what we are doing for the time being.

If you have any ideas or thoughts, we would gladly like to hear from you. Brother Doug talked about starting choir rehearsal in preparation for a Christmas program. He is reaching out to choir members and potential choir members for their input.

The East Wing Project continues to go forward. There was a slow-down the last several weeks, but things are picking up. It is exciting to see the progress. God is good!

As you Pastor, I want to commend you for your continual and consistent financial support to your church. Many are still unable to attend at this time, but you are faithful in your tithes and offerings. Some are now giving online. Your love for Jesus and the Church is showing.

Let me close by reminding you to pray for our country and the upcoming election. I have heard people saying that this election may very well be the most important election in our lifetime. PRAY – STAND – VOTE!

To Live Is Christ,

Bro. Danny

Update from Pastor Danny

Dear Southmoore Family and Friends,

I want to borrow the words of the Apostle Paul: “I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy.” (Philemon 1:3-4)

The last month has been a more than challenging time for my family and me. After several doctor’s appointments and dealing with the “unknowns” and the “what-ifs” we have finally come through the storm.

We met with our urologist yesterday, September 15. He confirmed that the tumor in my bladder was malignant. the great news is that he had already removed it on September 3. We thought that he was only going to take a biopsy of it first and remove it later. That wasn’t the case. We obviously didn’t ask enough questions.

The doctor said he was able to get all of the tumor. Praise the Lord! But also said there is a possibility that more tumors may appear later. I am now scheduled to have a procedure every two months for the next year to check out my bladder.

Judy and I have been overwhelmed with the outpouring of love and prayers from you. You have lifted us up, and truly, your prayers have made a difference. We are so blessed to have such a wonderful church family.

We love you very much!

To Live is Christ,

Bro. Danny and Judy

September’s Newsletter

Dear Southmoore Church Family and Friends,

I can hear you say, “Don’t you think this is a little much?”

My answer, “Yes, I do!”

We are all getting tired of our new normal. We are used to moving on. We are used to putting “stuff” behind us. It doesn’t matter how you slice it; these are difficult days.

It’s easy to say, “Don’t worry,” or “Don’t be afraid.” I know as God’s people we are not to live in fear. Yes, fear and faith cannot co-exist. But there are times in our lives that fear comes barging in. It’s called reality.

Keep reading. I have some good news. “When I am afraid, I will trust in you. In God whose word I praise- in God I trust; I will not be afraid.” (Psalm 56:3-4)

Did you notice the psalmist saying when I am afraid, I will trust God? He is saying that there are times in our lives that fear sets in. When it does, we are to trust God. Easier said than done, yes. I hope you hear God saying, “We are going to get through this – together.” It is His promise to us.

I have a personal prayer request. It was discovered last week that I have a tumor in my bladder. It is about the size of a walnut. A biopsy was taken and was sent off to the lab. I will not know the results of the test until September 18. This finding not only has my attention, but also my family. Please pray for us as we navigate through these uncertain days.

To Live Is Christ,

Bro. Danny
